A cabin is generally referred to a small house usually with a wooden exterior found in a remote area. It may also refer to a log cabin which is a small house made of logs or built with the help of logs. A beach cabin, as the name suggests, is a cabin built on the beach. A cabin may also refer to a room used for official purposes, such as an office cabin. There are a few transportation cabins as well. An enclosed room on a ship is called a cabin. Similarly, an enclosed room on an airplane is called an aircraft cabin.

A portable cabin is a cabin normally for temporary use, which is easy to assemble, dismantle and move from one location to another. Portable cabins, also called demountable or modular buildings, are intended to be able to move and are not located permanently in one place.
